HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Eight officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department received awards for their brave, and quick responses for two specific incidents in 2023.

The Distinguished Group Award was given for the coordinated efforts of a team on Sept. 12 when officers responded to a call of veteran who was threating suicide by cop and was actively firing shots into the air. While the subject moved through the city on foot, officers formulated a plan to find him using electronic intelligence, according to HPD.

After an hour and a half of coordinated searching and negotiations, officers were able to get the subject to surrender his weapon and be arrested unharmed. Detective Nina Wright, Detective Jonathan Sholar, Officer Andrew Patino, Sgt. Jeremy Davidson, Officer Adam Robertson, and Detective Tyler Hancock received the award.

Separately, Officer Jerimiah Kline and Detective Shaun Moore were given the Life Saving Award for saving the life of a woman that was being attacked by a dog in December. Both officers witnessed the victim suffering from dog bite injuries and made the quick decision to euthanize the dog while it continued to attack, saving the womans life.
