HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – “We were very fortunate in this instance that we found the cat as quickly as we did,” said Jordan Holloman, a firefighter with the Hopkinsville Fire Department who helped rescue a cat Monday afternoon.

On Jan. 15 , HFD responded to a house fire on Seminole Avenue where visible smoke was seen coming out of the house, according to the fire department. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, and the elderly woman living at the home was able to escape uninjured, but her cat was trapped inside. Firefighters Bryce Bisckler and Jordan Holloman were tasked with searching for the cat in the back bedrooms.

“Upon searching through smoke filled rooms, I kneeled down to look under the bed. I saw the reflection of the cat’s eyes, but it wasn’t within arms’ reach, so Bicksler lifted the bed where I could crawl under to reach the cat. It was truly a team effort,” said Holloman.

The cat was given oxygen and was transported to an emergency vet where its is expected to make a full recovery.

“It’s a good feeling to have been able to assist in this rescue and reunite the cat with its owner,” Holloman told Christian County Now. “We are trained to save lives, and in this instance, it just so happened to be the life of a cat.”

HFD determined the source of the fire to be an electric fireplace in the living room. Due to the damage caused from the fire, the home is currently unlivable, leaving the woman temporarily displaced.
