HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The rear end of an SUV was struck by a train in Hopkinsville Tuesday afternoon after the car attempted to cross the tracks when the lights were flashing. The accident occurred at the railroad crossing on Skyline Drive, causing major traffic delays while the train was stopped.
The driver was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. There were three children under the age of 10 in the car who received non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Jennie Stuart Health, according to Hopkinsville EMS. The driver told Hopkinsville Police he did not see the railroad crossing gate.
There was an 8-year-old in the front seat, and a 6-year-old was in the backseat without the appropriate booster seats. The toddler in the car was properly restrained. Criminal charges are pending, according to a crash report from Hopkinsville Police.
