Lucian “L.A.” Hill, Jr., age 97, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Bradford Heights Nursing and Rehab of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Sinking Fork Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Humphries officiating and burial to follow in Sinking Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Sinking Fork Baptist Church on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The family has entrusted Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home to handle the arrangements.

Mr. Hill was born on September 27, 1926, in Hopkinsville, KY, the son of the late Lucian A. Hill Sr. and Mabel Bryant Hill. L.A. devoted his life to serving the Lord. He was a lifelong member of Sinking Fork Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, treasurer, and Sunday School teacher. L.A. was well known for his generosity, integrity, and his work ethic. He raised cattle and farmed all his life. In 1959, he began his career with the Farm Service Agency, formerly ASCS office, as a crop surveyor. In 1961, he became a grain inspector and field assistant, and in 1963 he began work as a tobacco warehouse supervisor at Moss-Heltsley-Frankel Loose Floor and did so for many years. Christian County has many farms and there are few that L.A. Hill has not been on at one time or another, either measuring crops or baling hay. He was well known for his baling expertise in Christian County and surrounding counties. He was also well known for his strawberry patch, where he kept it well tended, picking and selling strawberries. L.A. enjoyed watching UK basketball and challenging others in the games of chess, scrabble, dominoes, and other competitive games.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Austin Hill; his sisters, Mary Alice Hancock and her husband Moody, and Elizabeth Ann Hill.

Survivors included his nieces and nephews, Lisa Smiley of Hopkinsville, KY, Ray Hancock (Cindy) of Hopkinsville, Roger Hancock (Julie) of Strawberry Plains, TN, Carlene Scillian (Bill) of Paducah, Dan Hancock (Debbie) of Hopkinsville, KY, Beth Carpenter (Buzz) of Hopkinsville, KY; 11 great-nieces and nephews; and 8 great-great-nieces and nephews.
