HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Beginning on Oct. 1, Pennyrile Electric customers can expect higher bills in response to an increase from the Tennessee Valley Authority.

The TVA recently announced a wholesale rate increase of 4.5%, which has led to a bump in monthly customer charges in the amount of $2. This extra charge will help aid Pennyrile Electric in recovering fixed costs. On average, customers will see an extra $7 or $8 on their bills, depending on usage, according to a news release.

Pennyrile Electric has worked hard in the past to contain these costs and avoid raising bills, but in this case it is unavoidable, the agency said.

“Due to TVA’s increase to wholesale power cost, along with supply constraints and substantial cost increases on material across our industry, members will see an increase on their monthly bill, beginning in October,” the agency said in the release. “Pennyrile Electric operates on only a portion of the money collected each month. In fact, approximately 75% of every dollar collected is paid to the cooperatives wholesale electric power provider, TVA.”

Customers with questions or concerns about this change can go to the Pennyrile Electric website, call 270-886-2555 or visit the office at 2000 Harrison St.
