HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An alert was sent out in Christian County early Thursday morning letting residents know that the nationwide AT&T outage was affecting local 911 emergency services. This complete blackout of services lasted a few hours while the issue was being fixed.
At 6:30 a.m., a few hours later, and update was shared saying, “It appears 911 services have been restored. You should be able to call 911 as normal, if not you can always text 911.”
Hopkinsville Fire and EMS warned the public that AT&T customers may not be able to make phone calls or send messages, although some may go through over WiFi. They reminded the public not to call 911 unless there is an emergency. Dispatch can be reached on their non-emergency line, 270-890-1300.
The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security explained that while AT&T is experiencing most of the issues, all three major cell phone carriers are affected. They also noted although this is a massive outage, it is not a systemwide failure. As of 7 a.m., the KOHS is reporting, AT&T service is being restored.
