HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At the request of Mayor J.R. Knight, Peg Hays represented the Local Development Corporation at the Hopkinsville City Council meeting Tuesday night to discuss the importance of focusing on downtown revitalization.

“I believe that Hopkinsville has lot of hope, but hope is not an action plan,” said Hays to the council. “If you want to realize change, you are going to have to take action.”

As the acting Chair of the Local Development Corporation, Hays steadfastly recommended the council moves forward with the development proposal given to the city in the fall of 2023 by an outside consultant.

Planters Bank had paid $10,000 to hire Jeff Segler to come to the city to create the Hopkinsville real estate development proposal. Segler interviewed over 70 people in the community and toured the area before giving his recommendations. The “Revive or Die” plan gave a detailed outline on how to revitalize downtown, investigate market opportunities for Hopkinsville, and made recommendations for further revitalization work.

According to Hays, this proposal has not been utilized yet. She continued to say the city should build off their momentum and follow through. Hays believes the beginning steps are doable and would help give Hopkinsville the identity it lacks.
