HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Now that the primary election has concluded, many candidates have one final chance to secure their positions on the Hopkinsville City Council and Christian County Fiscal Court. With Mayor James R. Knight losing the republican nomination, results from the primary are already reshaping these two legislative bodies as the community braces for new leadership.

Several first term city councilmembers lost the primary and will not be holding their seats after the general election in November. Councilmember Vance Smith, Brandi Stallons, Brittanie Bogard, and Michael Velez all lost to their opposition on May 19. Other first term councilmembers, Elizabeth Draude and Clayton Sumner, were both running unopposed.

Councilmember Donald Marsh, representing Ward 3, won his primary, and guaranteed his seat through the general election. While May 19 determined Marsh’s standing, there are still more decisions to be had this fall to fill all 12 seats. In the general election, the ballot will include the race for Ward 11, Ward 10, Ward 9, Ward 8, and Ward 5.

The following candidates were running unopposed and are guaranteed a seat on the Hopkinsville City Council.

  • Ward 2: Adrian J. Bruce
  • Ward 4: Terry Parker
  • Ward 6: Current Councilmember Travis Martin
  • Ward 7: Current Councilmember Clayton Sumner
  • Ward 12: Current Councilmember Elizabeth Draude

Christian County Fiscal Court results

Representing the county, going into the primary there were only a few contested races. George Barnett and Austin Brawford both won their primary and will face democratic opposition in November.

Todd Morris, representing District 7 also won, and is guaranteed his seat. Lucas Stagner had victory over current Magistrate John Bruce and will not face opposition for the District 8 seat.

The following candidates were running unopposed and are guaranteed their seats after the general election.

  • District 1: Current Magistrate Magaline Ferguson
  • District 2: Current Magistrate Josh Turner
  • District 4: Current Magistrate J.E Pryor
  • District 6: Current Magistrate Philip Peterson

During the Nov. 3 election, nonpartisan races throughout the county will also be held alongside these remaining council and fiscal court seats. This includes mayor and council seats for cities like Oak Grove, Crofton, Pembroke, and Lafayette.
