HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville man suspected of being on drugs was arrested Monday morning after entering a random person’s vehicle and being in possession of a stolen gun.
At 10 a.m. on May 4, HPD was dispatched to the area of Woodmill Road and East 19th Street in response to a suspicious person. The caller told dispatch that the man drove up to his jobsite, got out of his vehicle and entered the caller’s truck while he was inside of it. When the suspect saw the caller, he took off running, according to an arrest report.
HPD caught up with the suspect, who told officers he was running because he had, “Just done a whole bunch of drugs.” The arrest report says he became irate and was detained. The 39-year-old Hopkinsville man was found to be a convicted felon, and a search of his vehicle yielded a pistol in plain view of the driver’s seat, which had been reported stolen from North Carolina.
While in route to the Christian County jail, he began kicking the back door of the vehicle, causing them to bend outward. He also broke off both door handles on the interior.
He is being charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, public intoxication, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening, and receiving stolen property.
