OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Oak Grove officials are pursuing an amendment to a city ordinance that would prohibit alcohol sales and service after midnight. Currently, the sale of alcohol is permitted between the hours of 6 a.m. and 3 a.m.

This amendment was on the agenda for the special called Oak Grove Committee of the Whole meeting that was held on July 15. The ordinance they are referring to governs the sale, service, licensing and control of alcoholic beverages within city limits.

According to Councilmember Janet Edwards, Walmart in Oak Grove has said this change would not impact them. It was also established that no liquor stores in the city would be impacted due to their hours of operation, but bars could potentially be affected.

Bars inside Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel remain open until 4 a.m., but according to discussion from councilmembers, this change would not impact the casino due to their specific licensing. Valor Hall Conference and Event Center would also not be impacted.

The ordinance currently states that during hours when the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited, the premises must be closed and vacated by all patrons and other members of the public. During prohibited hours, no alcoholic beverages shall be sold, served, delivered, dispensed, consumed, or otherwise provided to any person on the licensed premises.

The councilmembers unanimously approved the midnight cutoff for alcohol sales, and it was forwarded to the Oak Grove City Council for final approval via two readings of the amendment.
