HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville Police Department is attempting to locate a suspect who vandalized a government building before Hopkinsville’s Pride in the Park event.
The exterior brick wall of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library was defaced sometime during the night before and was reported to HPD at 7:30 a.m. on June 13. According to police, the vandalism displayed anti LGBTQ messaging, including graffiti and signs.
Pride in the Park took place outside of the library at the greenway amphitheater later that day in the same area that the vandalism occurred. This event marked the Hopkinsville-Christian County Human Rights Commission’s first Pride event in the city. The area was cleared before the event began, and a crowd spent the afternoon enjoying a photo booth, an open mic, food trucks and ice-cold drinks while building connections in a positive environment.
If a suspect is located, the individual could face charges related to institutional vandalism and criminal mischief. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Christian County ECC at 270-890-1300.
