HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Motorists traveling southbound on Interstate 169 near Exit 11 in Christian County should be alert for brief traffic stoppages as a contractor working for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet prepares for the next phase of construction at the I-169/KY 1682 interchange.

The contractor will utilize rolling roadblocks on southbound I-169 starting Aug. 21 near the interchange to move barrier walls into place in preparation for an upcoming southbound lane closure.

Rolling roadblocks are a temporary traffic-control measure in which law enforcement or construction vehicles slow traffic and create a gap in the traffic stream, allowing construction crews to safely move materials and equipment within the work zone. Motorists should expect brief delays while the barrier walls are being positioned.

The barrier placement is necessary to establish the work zone for the next phase of the interchange reconstruction, which is converting the former Pennyrile Parkway and KY 1682 interchange from a cloverleaf design to a modern diamond interchange.

Additional information about the upcoming southbound lane and ramp closures will be provided as the construction schedule is finalized.

Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to reduce speed, remain alert for changing traffic patterns and follow the directions of construction personnel and all posted signs. Drivers should allow additional time for their commute and use caution when approaching the rolling roadblocks.

The work is necessary to complete the steps required to bring the former Pennyrile Parkway up to modern Interstate standards. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Additional updates will be provided as work progresses.
