HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A woman in Hopkinsville was arrested after her 20-month-old child was hospitalized for ingesting cocaine.
Hopkinsville Police officers were called Jennie Stuart Medical Center when the child was admitted on July 20. He showed symptoms of an overdose, and hospital staff gave him multiple doses of Narcan to combat it, according to a police report. Tests revealed he had cocaine in his system, and he was transferred to Vanderbilt in Nashville for more advanced medical care.
The woman told police she has used cocaine in the past week and believes the child may have found an old baggie with residue. Detectives investigated her home on Wildwood Drive, finding a firearm, marijuana, and numerous pills suspected to be fentanyl, said a news release from HPD. Four other children were removed from the home by the Department of Children Based Services.
The woman has been arrested and is being charged with four counts of wanton endangerment, criminal abuse, drug possession, and trafficking fentanyl.
