HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear made a visit to the construction site of the new Christian County High School with students of the future first graduating class, Board of Education members and the Superintendent Chris Bentzel on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Beshear presented over $9 million in grants to organizations throughout Christian County.

As attendees gathered in what will be the future commons and cafeteria area, Beshear presented the first check of $400,000 to the Pennyrile Allied Community Services (PACS) for a new transportation facility right in Hopkinsville.

“The project will be a multipurpose building with a bus drop off and pick up. It will have a maintenance garage and training facility for drivers. Kentucky families deserve safe roads,” said Beshear.

Beshear then presented a $1.2 million grant to Pennyrile Electric to connect unserved homes in the area with high-speed internet access. “It is the infrastructure not of tomorrow but of today,” he said. “Our goal is to hook up every home and every business across Kentucky in the coming years.”

Next, a cybersecurity grant for $38,250 was awarded to Christian County Fiscal Court. “This helps us keep important information secure,” said Beshear. “I am really proud of the county judge executive for really pushing for Christian County to get one of these grants first.”

The Christian County Public Library was also awarded a grant of $480,000 to go toward renovations including updated restrooms, increased handicap accessibility, installing a new elevator and redoing the children’s program area.

The last grant totaling $7 million was awarded to CCPS, for the construction of athletic fields, and to finish the consolidated high school. As students from the first graduating class of the new high school held the check, Beshear emphasized the teamwork it has taken to help fund and build the school. “This will be the first of its kind in Western Kentucky. It will bring together career and technical education with traditional high school curriculum in one facility for its students,” said Beshar.

The consolidated high school is located at 5185 Fort Campbell Boulevard, and is set to be completed in 2026.
