HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – This weekend marks the start of the 75th Western Kentucky State Fair along with the chance to help support the local domestic violence shelter, and Australian performance, shop at over 100 miles of yard sales and more.

Western Kentucky State Fair

  • Details: The state fair kicks off in Hopkinsville this weekend with tractor pulls, a demolition derby and pageants starting off the week of festivities.

The Chair Project

  • Details: The Chair Project is a silent auction fundraiser benefiting Sanctuary, Inc. Artists and community members are invited to create, decorate or transform chairs that will be auctioned during the event.

Better Than Ezra

  • Where: Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel
  • When: June 26 at 8 p.m.

  • Details: Alternative rock band Better Than Ezra will perform at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel. The New Orleans-based group rose to fame with its platinum-selling album Deluxe and hit song “Good.” Known for its blend of catchy melodies and thoughtful songwriting, the band has spent more than three decades touring and building a loyal fan base.

KY Highway 41 Yard Sale

  • Where: Along U.S. Highway 41
  • When: June 26-27
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: The annual KY Highway 41 Yard Sale will feature hundreds of vendors and yard sale booths stretching approximately 150 miles across Western Kentucky. Shoppers can browse antiques, collectibles, household goods, crafts and more while traveling through Henderson, Webster, Hopkins, Christian and Todd Counties.

Stars, Stripes and Story Time

  • When: June 27 at 11 a.m.
  • Where: 1730 East Ninth Street, Hopkinsville
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: Join the Christian County Literacy Council and the Daughters of the American Revolution to see uniforms that were worn 250 years ago while enjoying a story time about America’s beginning. Kids will have a chance to color patriotic pictures, learn about Betsy Ross and make a flag.

Didgeridoo Down Under

  • When: June 27, 2-3 p.m.
  • Where: Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library
  • Cost: Free
  • Details: As part of the ongoing summer reading program, families can enjoy the Didgeridoo Down Under Show, which is a fusion of Australian music, culture and storytelling with audience participation.
