HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 29-year-old man under the influence found his way onto a CSX train in Hopkinsville and attempted to pull the emergency brake.
On Sept. 16 around 11 a.m., officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department arrived at East 14th Street and South Campbell Street after receiving a call about the suspect from CSX. The caller specified the suspect was as a non-employee and was pulling the emergency brake lever, which raised the risk of the train derailing, according to the police report.
When police encountered the suspect, he was walking up the tracks towards East 12th Street. The man charged at the police when they made their presence known and complied with orders when the officer drew his weapon.
The police report notes that the suspect was unable to tell officers where he was and what was going on. He was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing, knowingly risking damage to a railroad, and public intoxication of a controlled substance.
