HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Construction on historic apartment buildings in downtown Hopkinsville is now expected to continue into 2025. During a special called Hopkinsville City Council meeting on Nov. 6, a municipal order was passed to further extend Downtown Development Incentives from the city to the investor behind the restoration.
The property being renovated is located at 601 South Main Street in downtown Hopkinsville. Previously, a letter was submitted by The Rabbit’s Nest, LLC during a Hopkinsville Committee of the Whole meeting requesting an extension of the incentives pending the completion date for the restoration. This is the second time the company has asked for an extension, with the incentives for the project first established by a municipal order in December of 2021.
“Restoration of the property has required more complex structural and mechanical engineering/design work than originally anticipated,” said the letter. “Although earlier supply chain issues for materials have been resolved, interior demolition revealed additional issues and challenges that had to be addressed and subsequently delayed completion.”
They went on to detail that the cellar and all three floors of the building have been rebuilt, and construction of an elevator shaft and stairwells has been completed up to the room.
On Wednesday, city councilmembers unanimously passed the municipal order allowing incentives to be extended to December of 2025 as construction completes.
