HOPKINSVILLE, KY – At Thursday evening’s Board meeting, Christian County Public Schools announced Aniyah Lewis and Mollie Goode as the two student-elected representatives to serve on the Board of Education. Chosen by their peers at each high school, the students will attend monthly Board meetings, attend official gatherings and events, give Board presentations, and answer questions from Board members during Board meetings. The students are non-voting members and will not participate in closed-session meetings.
“It is an honor to once again welcome two CCPS high school students to our Board,” said CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel. “Student board members play a vital role in ensuring student voices are heard and valued. Now in our third year with great success, the initiative highlights our commitment to recognizing students as key stakeholders. Incorporating their perspectives into decision-making is essential to fulfilling the mission of Christian County Public Schools.”
Aniyah is a senior at Christian County High School and the daughter of Sharnetta Lewis. Aniyah also attends Gateway Academy, where she is a scholar in the Health Science Pathway. She is a member of numerous clubs and organizations, including the Student Superintendent Advisory Council, the Student Ambassador program, BSU, HOSA, FBLA, Drama Club and photography. Her post-secondary goals are to attend Texas Southern University and double major in pre-law and real estate with a minor in business.
Mollie is a senior at Hopkinsville High School and the daughter of the late Troy Goode and Anna Goode. Mollie has a passion for agriculture, leadership, and community service. She is an active member in the National FFA Organization and is currently serving as both the president of her local chapter and vice president of the Pennyrile Region. Mollie is a co-op student and works with local radio station WHOP. She plans to attend Murray State University in the fall of 2025, and major in agricultural business.
In 2022, Christian County Schools joined other districts across the state of Kentucky to begin the initiative of student representatives serving on their Boards. Miss Lewis and Miss Goode were sworn in at tonight’s Board Meeting and will serve through the 2024-2025 school year. Student representatives from each high school will be elected to serve on the Board each year.
