HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 35-year-old man is being charged for driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle was involved in a collision in the area of Springmont and Woodmont Drive this weekend.

The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. Officer Royale Marfil with the Hopkinsville Police Department said the intoxicated driver was travelling southbound on Springmont Drive when he struck a mailbox, utility pole, and a fire hydrant. The car continued into the yard of a nearby home, hit a tree and an HVAC unit, and ultimately stopped after crashing into a house.

Due to the damage to the utility pole, residents in the area experienced power outages while Hopkinsville Electric System worked for several hours to repair the damage.

According to an arrest report from HPD, a witness saw the man flee from the scene of the crash on foot. After officers arrived, they were able to locate him behind a vehicle parked in the driveway. He was detained and transported to Jennie Stuart Health for medical treatment due to his injuries, where he was later moved to the Christian County Jail.
