HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Demolition of the old Christian County Middle School has begun on Glass Avenue. Employees and visitors to the Board of Education’s Central Office are advised to use caution around the demolition zone.
According to a news release from CCPS, the driveways and sidewalks surrounding the construction area will be fenced off throughout the process. Heavy equipment will also be present in the area, and extra caution is advised when navigating the area. Parking in front of or near the old CCMS should be avoided at all times.
“CCPS appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as work continues on this project,” said the news release.
Constructed in 1959, the old CCMS was in use until the new middle school opened in 2021. During the Feb. 20 Board of Education meeting, members voted to accept a demolition bid, costing the district $241,000. $400,000 was previously budgeted for the project, with the remaining funds to be used for asbestos abatement by a separate company prior to it being torn down. The demolition is expected to be completed by the middle of May.
