HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville man is facing an attempted murder charge after assaulting and choking a Hopkinsville Police officer.

On March 12 around 2:30 p.m., an HPD officer initiated a traffic stop of 43-year-old Carlo Jones when his motorcycle was seen passing a vehicle on the right side of the shoulder on Old Clarksville Pike and Fort Campbell Boulevard.

A news release from HPD says the suspect was extremely argumentative and refused to supply his driver’s license to officers. While being detained, Jones pulled away and pushed the arresting officer.

Jones then ran towards the officer and bear-hugged him, causing both Jones and the officer to fall over the guardrail towards and embankment near water. The suspect then mounted the officer and began choking him to the point of almost losing consciousness, according to HPD.

The man was arrested and placed in the Christian County Jail with no bond. He is being charged with attempted murder of a first responder, resisting arrest, menacing, and a traffic violation.
