HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An armed man was taken into custody while firefighters worked to extinguish a house fire in Hopkinsville Wednesday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m. on Aug. 20, the Hopkinsville Fire Department shared they responded to a house fire on the 100 block of White Street. According to a statement from HFD, crews observed smoke coming from the home and began firefighting operations immediately.

Soon after, the homeowner was located behind the house, armed with a gun. Due to this encounter, fire operations were paused until officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department arrived. The individual was then removed from the scene and taken into custody.

Firefighters began work to extinguish the fire after the homeowner was removed. The cause is currently being investigated.
