HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 37-year-old man riding a bicycle was hit by a pickup truck, who then left the scene of the accident on Thursday.

On Aug. 28 around 5 p.m. Hopkinsville Police were dispatched to a collision at the intersection of Lucky Debonair Drive and Calvin Drive. According to a police report, officers made contact with the bicyclist who was lying on the ground with apparent injuries to his ankle, possibly also injuring his neck and wrist. He was crossing the intersection when the truck turned left and struck him, then left the scene.

The man was able to describe the truck and license plate, and officers were able to track down the vehicle and residence of the suspect within 30 minutes using FLOCK cameras.

HPD says the male suspect, Shelvie Edmonds of Hopkinsville, was read his Miranda Rights, and agreed to talk. He admitted to being the driver in the accident, saying that he checked on the bicyclist before leaving the scene. The damage on his vehicle was consistent with the crash.

He was arrested and is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
