HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville is preparing for one of the city’s most flavorful fall traditions, the annual Chili Cook-Off and Cornbread Challenge. The Christian County Military Affairs Committee has been hosting this event for over 30 years, celebrating the bond between Fort Campbell and the Christian County community.
People who think they have the best recipes and boldest flavors are able to sign up their team, while spectators can enjoy chili tastings, live entertainment and family-friendly activities on the day. Last year had 30 booths serving up chili, with first place going to the Gateway culinary student team.
Registered teams are encouraged to decorate their booths in fun ways and will compete for the title of Best Chili in Christian County and a chance to win a $1,000 grand prize. First, second, and third place monetary prizes will also be awarded along with a best theme and crowd favorite.
Teams have until Oct. 10 to register online on the MAC website and reserve a tent space. All six gallons of chili has to be made on site during the competition. The Cornbread Challenge entry is $20, single chili booth is $95, with a double booth for $150. Active-duty soldiers and their families can participate for no cost. Cooking will begin at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., with the community welcomed in for activities, judging and sampling from 4-6 p.m.
