KYTC says crews are prioritizing clearing primary routes, including interstates and parkways, to keep the most highly traveled roadways open and passable for emergency response, freight movement, and essential travel. In Christian County, where crews are experiencing heavier icing and freezing rain, all available plows were reassigned to Interstate 24 early this morning to break up ice and clear the roadway, according to a news release.
This focused effort is aimed at maintaining safe travel on the interstate as conditions continue to deteriorate. Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and to use extreme caution if travel is unavoidable. Drivers should expect slick, snow- and ice-covered roads, especially on bridges, overpasses, and elevated surfaces, which freeze more quickly than pavement.
