CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Two arrests resulted in drug trafficking and child endangerment charges after marijuana and a firearm were found in a residence where children reside.
28-year-old Jevartaye Thomas of Hopkinsville was initially seen on Feb. 24 around 5:30 p.m. driving a vehicle that was involved in an ongoing drug investigation. Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office followed the vehicle, eventually initiating a traffic stop on Greenville Road. A search of his vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia, and a search warrant for his residence on Locust Street was acquired.
An arrest report from CCSO says a large amount of marijuana was discovered on the floor of a bedroom, on a desk, and packed in mason jars and plastic bags inside a backpack. A loaded AR-style rifle with a bullet in the chamber was found by the nightstand of the bedroom. It was determined that the gun belonged to Thomas, who is a convicted felon.
25-year-old Makayla Holmes of Hopkinsville was present in the residence during the search, who is the mother of Thomas’ two children that were living in the home. Both the firearm and the marijuana were easily accessible by the two children, according to CCSO. Department of Children Services was contacted, and a grandparent was granted custody.
Both were arrested and taken to the Christian County Jail. Holmes was charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
Thomas was charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Trafficking in Marijuana (2nd or greater offense, enhancement) Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and several traffic offenses.
