HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A tulip poplar tree will be planted outside of the Hopkinsville Visitors Center as part of the America 250 Kentucky Celebration.
To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Kentucky Division of Forestry donated 120 tulip poplar trees for the Liberty Tree Project. As Kentucky’s state tree, one will be planted in each of the 120 counties in the commonwealth during a ceremony.
A news release from the Christian County Fiscal Court shared that the ceremonies are aimed to connect communities through shared history and commitment to conservation by supporting native plants.
“The Liberty Tree Project allows us to celebrate our nation’s founding while investing in the future of our environment and communities,” said Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam. “We are proud to bring this meaningful initiative to Christian County.”
The public is invited to attend the planting ceremony, which will be held on April 13 at 10 a.m. at 1730 East Ninth Street. The project is done in conjunction with the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
