PEMBROKE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Pembroke Fire Department has just received a new rescue vehicle, which will soon be outfitted with upgraded, state of the art equipment to increase firefighter safety and response capabilities.

“This new rescue allows us to respond to more diverse emergencies with the proper equipment on one apparatus,” Fire Chief Nicholas Belair told Christian County Now. Funded through the Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program Fire, the apparatus allows firefighters in Pembroke to utilize new critical functions during emergencies such as motor vehicle accidents and medical emergencies.

They will now have room to hold their newly acquired water rescue and rope rescue equipment and transport their thermal drone. The vehicle is also equipped with a SCBA compressor for breathing air, and a built-in light tower so they can provide support to other agencies as needed.

“This is the first rescue in the county and in the area that has a mobile cascade system, which it allows us to fill SCBA bottles on scene during emergencies,” said Belair. “The acquisition of this rescue will not only help Pembroke and our residence, but all Christian County fire departments and nearby surrounding counties.”

This new vehicle was delivered to the volunteer department on June 30 and will now be retrofitted to fit their gear. It is replacing an old rescue vehicle that went out of service nearly four years ago due to mechanical issues.
