HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Today marks the beginning of the City of Hopkinsville’s Fiscal Year 2026–2027. To help residents better understand how the city’s finances work, the city has launched a new Budget Dashboard that provides a simple, easy-to-understand overview of the budget.

The dashboard explains where the city’s revenue comes from, how tax dollars are allocated, and the priorities that shape investments throughout the coming year, according to a news release from the city. It was designed to make the budget more transparent and accessible by breaking down complex financial information into clear, visual snapshots.

Also found on the dashboard landing page is a link to the entire budget binder, and the approved operational and capital budgets. Residents are also able to watch the live stream of the Mayor’s Budget Address that was held in May.

“Our budget is more than numbers on a spreadsheet, it’s our plan for serving the people of Hopkinsville over the next year,” said Mayor J.R. Knight Jr. “Every dollar is intentionally invested to support public safety, strengthen infrastructure, improve city services, and position our community for future growth. We invite everyone to explore the Budget Dashboard and see firsthand how their tax dollars are working for them.”

The Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget includes:

  • A $54.6 million budget.
  • Nearly $26.9 million invested in Police, Fire, EMS, 911 Dispatch, and Fire Prevention.
  • $2.71 million dedicated to one-time capital investments in equipment, technology, and facility
    improvements.
  • $1.33 million for paving and improving city streets through the Municipal Road Aid Fund.
  • More than $1.4 million invested in Information Technology to improve city operations and
    customer service.
  • Continued funding for essential community partners, including the library, airport, economic
    development, and transit.
  • A commitment to maintaining strong financial reserves while keeping Hopkinsville’s property
tax rate among the lowest of comparable Kentucky cities.

The Fiscal Year 2026–2027 Budget Dashboard is available at: www.hoptown.org/budget. Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to reach out directly to their ward’s councilmember.
