HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The day after the Hopkinsville Police Department shared that 44-year-old Terrance Christian had been arrested and charged with murder, Police Chief Jason Newby made a statement regarding rumors of previous arrests. He confirmed that Christian had been arrested a total of 34 times, 27 of which were in Christian County.
The morning of July 28, HPD responded to a report of a deceased individual in the Little River near Westside Park. The body of 34-year-old Clifford Barber of Bowling Green was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. HPD announced Christian’s arrest on July 29.
Newby explained that the past charges ranged from drug trafficking to drug possession and having a handgun unlawfully. He emphasized that HPD is doing their best to enforce all laws in the City of Hopkinsville, encompassing traffic and criminal offences.
“Although our community has dealt with these homicides in recent months, I am very proud of the dedication from our officers that have solved every one of them and arrested those responsible,” said Newby. “My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their friends, families, and our entire community who mourns with them. We have your back Hopkinsville, and we will continue to do all we can to serve and protect you.”
This is the third homicide investigated by HPD since May. Previous investigations included the shooting deaths of two 19-year-olds in separate instances. Arrests have been made in each case. The Christian County Sheriff’s Office has also investigated and made an arrest in a homicide this summer, after the stabbing death of a Hopkinsville man.
