HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Families of students entering Christian County Public Schools can file an exception request for the kindergarten age policy for students turning 5 years old shortly after Aug. 1.

According to a news release from CCPS, a Kentucky Senate bill states that a child must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1 for that child to attend the 2024-25 kindergarten class. In response to the community’s request for exception, the Christian County School Board enacted an Entrance Age Policy petition process. This will allow for students to attend kindergarten even if they are not 5 years old by Aug. 1. The deadline for this exception is March 31.

To request a petition for an early enrollment form, first determine you child’s school zone at the Christian County School District map.Families will need to provide the student’s birth date and reason for the request on the petition form. Once completed, submit the petition to the zoned-school guidance counselor.

If the form is accepted, the student will take the Brigance Assessment, a test to determine the student’s readiness for entry into school. There is a $25 processing fee for the assessment.

Once reviewed, the parent or guardian will receive the district’s approval or denial in writing in mail. CCPS will also consider early enrollment based on social and emotional readiness of the child and if there is enough available space and funding.
