HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Salvation Army in Hopkinsville has noticed a surge in families financially struggling due to increased costs of basic essentials. With the Easter season approaching, they believe it’s an ideal time for people in the community to support these families however they can.

“As we prepare to celebrate Easter, many families in our community are facing daunting decisions – whether to put food on the table or keep the lights on, pay rent or cover essential medical bills,” said Lieutenant Lindsey Galabeas, Corps Officer in Hopkinsville. “These are our neighbors, our friends, and our fellow residents, and they need our help now more than ever.”

An increasing number of first-time families are seeking assistance from the Hopkinsville Salvation Army, according to a news release. More people are seeking food assistance, aid with bills, and are dealing with possible eviction from homes. Last year, they served more than 48,000 meals, distributed almost 45,000 food boxes, provided over 8,500 nights of shelter, and provided utility assistance more than 1,100 times.

How to help

“Even a small donation can make a big difference,” emphasized Lt. Galabeas in a news release. “A grocery voucher can fill empty cupboards, a gift of $50 or $100 can keep families’ utilities on, and our rental assistance truly can prevent a family from losing their home.”

The Salvation Army shared various ways people can help local families in need. People can also visit the Hopkinsville Salvation Army website, or call (270) 885-9633 to learn more about how you can help.
