HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Christian County Fiscal Court filed a grant application to involve the county in a program to test out rubber modified asphalt roads. The proposed area for the paving is a one mile stretch on Millers Mill Road. This area is reportedly frequently damaged by horse traffic.

A few years ago, Witty Lane in Hopkinsville was repaved with the same modified asphalt. The promised durability of the new asphalt should improve the road in the long run, said Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam during Tuesday’s meeting.

Rubber used in the asphalt is made from recycled materials, and if the grant is awarded the county will report back to the state on the continued condition of the road. The proposed grant will be through the PADD office, an exact cost is currently unknown according to the Judge Executives office.
