HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Flood Watch remains in place for Christian County through 7 p.m. on June 9, with more storms anticipated to come through the area throughout the day as the heat index rises.
“Some of these storms may briefly produce a damaging wind threat,” said a statement from the National Weather Service Paducah. “They will also be slow moving heavy rain producers and any area that has one set up over them could experience flash flooding.”

Excessive runoff from rain may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. In addition, the NWS is predicting that the heat index will continue to rise as storms pass. By Wednesday the heat index in Hopkinsville will reach 103 degrees, staying at 102 on Thursday.
As continuous rain chances are forecasted, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to use caution when water pools on roadways. After heavy rainfall came through Monday night, CCSO shared that they responded to 19 motor vehicle accidents or assists in less than 36 hours, largely due to hydroplaning.
If a vehicle starts to hydroplane, a driver should take their foot off the gas and steer straight without hitting the brakes. Deputies are encouraging people to slow down and take their time as more rain is anticipated.
