HOPKINSVILLE, KY – As communities across the country recognize National Salvation Army Week, The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is inviting residents, businesses, and civic partners to join in a shared mission of meeting human needs and strengthening lives throughout Christian County.

For more than a century, The Salvation Army has worked alongside local partners to provide critical services to neighbors in need. In 2025 alone, the organization’s impact in Hopkinsville included:

  • 7,537 individuals served
  • 45,909 meals provided
  • 38,414 food boxes distributed
  • 8,323 nights of shelter offered
  • 582 households assisted with rent
  • 693 families supported with utility assistance
  • 2,958 clothing items distributed
  • 2,864 Angel tree gifts under the tree

“These numbers represent real people, families, seniors, and children, who found hope and stability through the support of this community,” said Lieutenant David Donegan. “We are grateful for the collaboration we have with our local government, community partners, and donors who make this work possible.”

Funding delay, where help is needed

As part of its ongoing efforts, The Salvation Army continues to operate its emergency shelter, a critical resource for individuals experiencing homelessness. While a key Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) that supports shelter operations has been delayed, the organization has remained committed to uninterrupted service by utilizing reserve funds to ensure that no one is turned away during this time.

However, this approach is not sustainable long-term. The Salvation Army relies on public support for approximately 40% of its operating income, and the continued use of reserve funds places added strain on resources needed to sustain programs throughout the year.

“This moment is an opportunity for our community to come together,” Donegan added. “We are not stepping back. We are leaning in, and we invite others to join us in meeting the need.”

National Salvation Army Week serves as a reminder that community impact is strongest when people unite around a common purpose. The Salvation Army encourages individuals, churches, businesses, and civic groups to become active partners in sustaining and expanding these services.
