HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The City of Hopkinsville is accepting applications to fill the Ward 5 vacancy on Hopkinsville City Council. The appointment will fill the remainder of the current term, which expires December 31, 2026.

After sitting on the council for nine years, Councilmember Amy Craig announced her resignation from the city council during the June 2 meeting, although it was not effective until June 16. The city now has 30 days to fill the vacant seat.

In accordance with the city’s established council vacancy procedures, interested residents of Ward 5 are encouraged to apply for consideration, according to a news release from the City of Hopkinsville. Applicants must reside within the boundaries of Ward 5, be at least 18 years of age, be a qualified voter in the City of Hopkinsville, and meet all qualifications prescribed by Kentucky law for the office.

Applicants will be questioned during an upcoming city council meeting, with sitting councilmembers publicly choosing their preferred applicant who will be immediately sworn in. Whoever is selected will surrender the seat to the winner of the November election. Anna Norris (R) and Carolyn Marie Hughes (D) are both on the ballot for the seat.

The council recently went through this process to fill another vacant seat in April, with Terry Meek selected to serve for ward 8 after his son resigned from the position in March.
