Swain’s past experience

Major Swain comes to Hopkinsville after serving for the past five years in Ashland, Kentucky. Prior to that appointment, he served at The Salvation Army’s National Headquarters, where he worked as an editor for The War Cry, The Salvation Army’s national publication. His ministry experience also includes service in youth work, finance, and leadership roles in both small communities and large cities.

Major Swain brings more than four decades of connection to The Salvation Army and 28 years of experience as a Salvation Army officer.

“New appointments are an opportunity to connect with new people and experience a new city environment,” said Major Swain. “Each city has its unique strengths and local flavors. I’m excited to experience both of these.”

Before entering officership, Major Swain worked for The Salvation Army in both local and regional capacities. He describes his journey into ministry as a calling. “Officership is a calling, and one never expects that God will call you, but He does,” he said. “One day I heard a voice clearly say that I was needed, and so I went.”

What Hopkinsville can expect from this change in leadership

Major Swain says his approach to ministry is rooted in being available and responsive to community needs.

“Salvation Army officers wear many different hats on any given day,” he added. “If the community has a need, give us a call, and maybe we can meet that need.” Drawing on nearly three decades of officership experience, Major Swain expressed excitement about becoming part of the Hopkinsville community and continuing The Salvation Army’s mission of service.

“I look forward to meeting you and serving with you in the community,” said Major Swain. “God is going to do great things!”
