HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Various pills were found inside the vehicle of a man that fled police while driving on a suspended license and running through a neighborhood.

Officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department initially attempted a traffic stop after the 47-year-old suspect was seen driving without a seatbelt on June 19 at 11 a.m. The driver accelerated through traffic on East Ninth Street and did not pull over. While fleeing, he hit the rear driver’s side of another vehicle on East Twelfth Street, later telling police he lost control due to a bald spare tire.

HPD caught up with the suspect as he turned into a driveway and ran out of the vehicle, according to a police report. As more officers arrived on scene to set up a perimeter and canvas for the suspect, a few residents informed authorities they saw a man running behind their homes, who police found and arrested.

During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, officers found several prescription containers and pills identified as Hydrocodone Bitartrate, Morphine, and Hydrocodone. The suspect told officers the pills belong to his ex-girlfriend, and that he fled because he was trying to go to a nearby tire shop and he did not want to go to jail.

He is facing eight charges including driving on a DUI suspended license, drug possession, fleeing police, and leaving the scene of an accident.
