OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – During the Oak Grove City Council meeting on Aug. 20, Assistant Chief of the Oak Grove Police Department, Victor Lynch, gave an update on the department’s statistics so far this year.

“Our officers are going out there and doing a lot of work,” said Lynch. He informed council that since January the police department has reported 228 accidents, 43 with injuries.  Additionally, among the city’s small population of 5,000 people, they responded to 9 assault reports, 21 burglary reports, 210 theft reports, over 30 DUIs, and 1,764 traffic stops.

“During those traffic stops we have recovered drugs, we have recovered weapons, and we apprehended people with warrants for different things,” he said.

Alongside the police department, animal control has been busy as well. Lynch reported that in June and July the animal control officer had received 127 calls for service, and 40 stray dogs were brought to the shelter in July.

“We have lots of problems with animals in the community,” he said. “I would appreciate it if we can get control of our animals and take care of them. To the people that have pets, they are your family and you must watch them.”

So far this year, Oak Grove Animal Control has received 692 animal complaints including barking dogs, or animals running at large. In regard to the short, staffed department Lynch said “We are doing the best we can to support the community and Oak Grove is a great community to work in.”
