HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – On the evening of May 5, deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Hopkinsville Police Department, responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and four bicyclists in the 1000 block of Pembroke Road. Two women were severely injured during the accident.

Upon arrival, first responders located two of the cyclists unresponsive, both suffering from significant injuries, according to a news release from CCSO. Hopkinsville Fire/EMS reported that one woman received CPR on the scene and was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for further treatment. The other woman was transported via helicopter to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Royal Marfil with HPD told Christian County Now that both women were in critical condition and stable at the time they were flown. As of this morning, one is still critical and stable while the other is currently on life support.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 30-year-old man from Radcliff, Kentucky, admitted to law enforcement that he was distracted while driving. Further investigation revealed Edwards displayed multiple signs of impairment during roadside sobriety testing administered by deputies and later admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that morning, according to CCSO. He was placed under arrest based on his performance during field sobriety and drug recognition evaluations.

He has been charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance – 3rd Offense (Aggravating Circumstance). He was transported to the Christian County Jail without further incident. This collision remains under investigation by the Hopkinsville Police Department.
