PEMBROKE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – One of the victims who was killed in a car accident was laid to rest in Christian County on Wednesday. On the evening of May 5, a serious motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and four bicyclists occurred at the 1000 block of Pembroke Road. Two women who were ride the bikes were initially severely injured and were flown to Nashville, Tennessee for treatment. Both of them later died in the hospital due to the extent of their injuries.

34-year-old Rachel Ann Hoover died at Vanderbilt Medical Center on May 10. Her funeral service was held May 14 at Pembroke Mennonite Church in Christian County. According to her obituary, she was a baker and manager at Schlabach’s Bakery in Guthrie, and originally resided in Elkton.

The other victim, 31-year-old Marlene Martin died on May 6 at Skyline Hospital.  Marlene was a homemaker and a member of Reidenbach Mennonite Church in New Holland, Pennsylvania. Her funeral service was held on May 12 in her home city.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 30-year-old Isaiah Edwards, admitted to law enforcement that he was distracted while driving. Further investigation revealed Edwards displayed multiple signs of impairment during roadside sobriety testing administered by deputies and later admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that morning, according to CCSO. He was placed under arrest based on his performance during field sobriety and drug recognition evaluations. No additional charges have been given at this time.
