HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A man was flown to the hospital after hitting another car and a utility pole on Pembroke Road on Wednesday night.
Near 8 p.m. on June 11, the car was traveling westbound when it rearended another vehicle that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jur. Way. The driver continued through the intersection, eventually colliding with the concrete base of a utility pole, according to a collision report from Hopkinsville Police Department. The occupants in the vehicle that was hit did not sustain any injuries.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, the 34-year-old male driver was unable to make a statement due to his injuries and was suffering from a seizure. HPD says it is unclear if the seizure began before or after the collision. He was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville via helicopter to be treated for his injuries.
After further investigation, HPD reports that the interior of the vehicle smelled heavily of alcohol and marijuana. A bag containing marijuana was found on the driver’s side floorboard, and two open beer cans were found. Officers will be seeking a search warrant to gain access to the blood alcohol and drug screen results to determine if he was under the influence at the time of the accident.
