HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A man was rescued by the Hopkinsville Police Department after his vehicle went off the roadway and into a retention pond Tuesday afternoon.

On July 16, HPD shared that they were dispatched to a single vehicle collision at the 200 block of Secretariat Way where the vehicle had entered a body of a water and was sinking quickly. According to Officer Royale Marfil, the driver had experienced a medical emergency prior to going off the roadway.

Officers on the scene were able to swim to the vehicle and rescue the occupant from the submerged vehicle. After being rescued, the man was assessed by Hopkinsville Fire/EMS and was transported to the hospital in Clarksville, Tennessee for further evaluation.

“Officer Stucki and Detective Salyers proved that they went above and beyond to rescue this community member,” said a statement from HPD. “We are so grateful for the selflessness that our officers continue to display, and it was a great collaborative effort by both agencies.”
