HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Families in Hopkinsville and Christian County are able to apply for this year’s Angel Tree as the Salvation Army prepares for the holiday season. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 31 for children ages 0-12 years of age.
According to the Salvation Army website, the Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year. Once a child has been registered and accepted as an Angel, their Christmas wish list is then shared with local donors who will purchase gifts of new clothing and toys. The gifts are distributed to the family to place under their family Christmas tree.
To register for the program, the Salvation Army requires multiple documents which may include the following.
- Valid Photo ID
- Original or copy of birth certificate or Medicaid card that shows each child’s birthdate
- Verification of need (If you receive food stamps, the only item you need to bring is proof of food stamps. If you do not receive food stamps, you will need to bring proof of all income coming into your household).
- Current utility bill or rent receipt verifying address
- Telephone number where you can be reached or a message can be left
- Clothing and shoe sizes for all children and a gift suggestion
