HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Current freshmen in the Chrisitan County Public Schools district attended a Commitment to Graduate Ceremony on Sept. 26. This yearly tradition is held at the Stadium of Champions, where the graduations are held at the end of each year.
“Today is a special day,” said CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel to the students.” In four years, the class of 2029 will be behind me on the grass receiving their high school diplomas…every day in our high schools, whether you’re at Bluegrass, Hopkinsville, Christian County, or Gateway, matters.”
This ceremony allows ninth graders to pledge their intent to sit in the same seats in four years as the graduating class of 2029. Ken Carver, the executive principal for the new Christian County High School spoke in front of all the students, his first opportunity to directly address the freshmen class from both schools.
“Commitment is a choice, a mindset, and a promise that we keep. Not only to others, but perhaps even more importantly, to ourselves.” said Carver. “You are both the closing chapter to one story, and the opening chapter of another.”
He encouraged students to show up every day and give it their all, reminding them to stay focused, and tackle challenges. Carver also praised the legacy of both Christian County and Hopkinsville High School.
After the speech, the students all stood together and recited the commitment to graduate pledge saying, “As a Christian County Public School freshmen, I commit to graduating in four years in May of 2029. I make this pledge so that my future is secured as a work and life ready citizen.”
