Updated 8:15 a.m. The suspect who was fatally struck has been identified as 40-year-old Brandon Higgins of Hopkinsville, according to Kentucky State Police.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Kentucky State Police is investigating after a suspect was fatally struck by a deputy’s vehicle Wednesday night.
On Nov. 5 around 7 p.m. deputies with the Christian County Sherriff’s Office were investigating a burglary on Morgan Lane. The suspect fled the scene prior to their arrival, according to a news release.
Deputies began canvassing the surrounding roads and neighborhoods in an attempt to locate the individual. While traveling southbound on Madisonville Road near Mt. Zoar Latham, a deputy encountered an unidentified male who jumped a guardrail and ran into the path of the deputy’s vehicle.
The unidentified male matches the description of the burglary suspect. He has been pronounced deceased on the scene.
The investigation has been turned over to the Kentucky State Police. Madisonville Road, both northbound and southbound, remained closed for several hours during the investigation.
