CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An investigation into a 44-year-old Crofton man’s phone has led to over 1,100 counts of possession of child pornography.
On Oct. 13, the investigation into Arturo Cruz-Vargas, who had a video showing child sexual abuse material, led to a search warrant for his phone and more files being located, according to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. He is now charged with 1,134 counts of possessing matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor under 12 years old.
Cruz-Vargas had been arrested Oct. 7 based on a cyber tip from the Kentucky ICAC Task Force regarding a file on a storage provider. He claimed that he downloaded the video while searching websites for his friend’s son, who was kidnapped in Mexico approximately several years ago.
