OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Although there is still about a three year wait until Buc-ee’s will likely be completed and opened in Oak Grove, necessary infrastructure work to accommodate the anticipated influx in traffic is already moving full steam ahead.

The week of June 6, a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet initiated road closures on Pembroke Oak Grove Road and I-24 to set beams for the new bridge structure by Exit 89. Since then, the second bridge is already taking shape, with construction crews actively on the scene. This additional bridge will create two new lanes for vehicles coming on an off the interstate.

City officials previously confirmed that total of three roundabouts will also be constructed leading up to the travel center, two of which will be placed right off of the east and westbound entrance ramps. Flood mitigation plans are included in their plans, which will include establishing stormwater basins.

This work is being done alongside a separate construction project by KYTC on the interstate, which removed several miles of concrete roadway in the westbound lane to replace with asphalt. This monthslong process has rerouted traffic to share single lanes on eastbound side of the interstate.

Despite the ongoing infrastructure work, Buc-ee’s has not announced a date for a groundbreaking at this time. An estimated opening date is listed as 2029 on their website.
