HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A former soldier has been indicted, charged with sexual abuse of a minor. The alleged crime took place during his time stationed at Fort Campbell between March 1999 and February 2000.
On Aug. 1 the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Kentucky disclosed that 54-year-old Zachary Martin Young was being charged. According to the news release, Young knowingly engaged in a sexual act with a minor victim who at the time was between the age of 12-16. According to court filings, Young was a soldier at the time of the offense and later retired from the U.S. Army in 2014.
At the end of July, he was arraigned before a U.S. Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. If convicted, he faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
This case is being investigated by the FBI Hopkinsville Satellite Office and the Army CID. There is no parole in the federal system.
