Earlier this month, Gov. Andy Beshear greatly expanded the number of qualifying conditions for medical cannabis in Kentucky, and Blue Sage Cannabis Dispensary in Oak Grove is helping to connect clients to the expanded access.
Previously, the qualifying conditions were limited to cancer, chronic/severe pain, epilepsy/seizure disorder, multiple sclerosis/spasms, chronic nausea/vomiting, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The following 15 additional conditions are now recognized: terminal illness, sickle cell anemia, ALS, Parkinson’s disease, HIV, AIDS, Huntington’s disease, muscular dystrophy, cachexia or wasting syndrome, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, neuropathies, severe arthritis, fibromyalgia and glaucoma.
The governor also announced that residents may no longer purchase medical marijuana out of state and possess it in Kentucky, which means a Kentucky certification card will be needed. This is expected to create a rush on providers as the law takes effect on July 1.
To help provide care to those suffering the expanded conditions, Kentucky Cannabis Industry Alliance is holding a series of patient drives at Blue Sage Cannabis Dispensary in Oak Grove. These sessions allow people to speak with medical professionals and get a certification that will be used to apply for a card through the state. People who attend a drive should bring their ID and relevant medical records, or upload them online ahead of time. The medical consultations are $25.

Patient drives will be held on June 12, 22 and 26, and July 3 and 24 outside the Blue Sage, Oak Grove store at 2624 Walter Garrett Lane, Oak Grove.
Blue Sage opened in April as Christian County’s only medical cannabis dispensary, allowing Kentucky residents with valid cards to purchase a variety of cannabis products. For more information, call 270-439-8380 or visit them online.
